The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is the Administrator of the NESP Marine Biodiversity Hub, a major investor in the hub, and a participant in the research activities of the hub. The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) at UTAS supports broad capability in marine science, but for the Hub, IMAS staff will focus on evaluating and monitoring the status of marine biodiversity assets on deep reefs on the continental shelf, and determining threats to shallow Australian reef ecosystems, both at a national level. Emphasis is given to combining existing data sets, identifying key knowledge gaps, targeted surveys, defining cost-efficient standardised monitoring for management, and evaluating threats and management arrangements. IMAS staff will provide strong research leadership in the Hub.
