This is a map of the NE corner of the Huon CMR and adjacent commonwealth water seabed. Mapping was completed as part of CERF marine biodiversity hub research by IMAS/GA. It shows a highly complex dolerite reef system that differs significantly from the low-profile relict coast reef system found within the Freycinet CMR. This complex reef system is highly productive and is actively targeted by rock lobster fishers. It has a substantial cover of sponge dominated sessile invertebrate cover and lobsters are abundant in AUV imagery taken over this habitat. This mapping, coupled with information from charts, similar mapping in the NW corner by CSIRO during earlier CMR planning work, and occasional transit tracks from the National Facility, indicates that such reef systems are a major component of the shelf habitats within the Huon CMR.
