Description: 
This acoustic image shows the remarkably well preserved forereef, reef crest and lagoon habitats of a relict barrier reef on the northwest shelf. The former reef crest sits at a depth of approximately 90 m, indicating the reef likely formed around 60-70 thousand years ago, during a relatively long period of low sea level. Today, the relict reef forms an important area of diverse seabed habitat, in a region with mostly flat and soft seabed environments. The data were acquired with a Kongsberg EM302 multibeam sonar on RV Tangaroa.
