The exciting taxonomy of a deep purple patch

Purple corals on the seafloor
Kirrily Moore decsribed and named this distinctive purple soft coral from a specimen collected a decade ago. The name Victorgorgia eminens recognises the fact that they are very obvious and distinct in photographs and video footage. Needless to say she was very excited when her coral came up in the sampling net. Image: CSIRO
