About

Current activities

My current research program explores the use of marine protected areas by predators. The approach, metrics and outcomes of this research are instrumental to management decisions in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Current projects include:

  • long-term monitoring of inshore predators within a dynamic coastal system
  • movement of coral reef predators in relation to environmental conditions
  • connectivity of reef habitats for mobile predator species
  • analysis of marine park zoning in the context of predator movement

Through these projects I aim to refine our understanding of how marine predators interact with their environment and produce outcomes relevant to the management and conservation of these species.

Background

My research outputs have been instrumental in management of blacktip shark populations in the SE US and were applied to conservation management of the Endangered smalltooth sawfish. As a result my research is listed in the US Federal Register.
