Current activities

Project E2 - Characterising anthropogenic underwater noise to improve understanding and management of acoustic impacts to marine wildlife

Project A7 - Monitoring population dynamics of ‘Western’ right whales off southern Australia

Project C5 - Quantification of risk from shipping to large marine fauna across Australia

Great Barrier Reef humpback whale research program

Passive acoustic monitoring of coastal delphinids, snubfin and humpback dolphins

Background

Joshua holds a BSc(Hons) in marine biology and a PhD in marine bioacoustics and animal behaviour. My main research interests focus on marine mammal behaviour, behavioural ecology, bioacoustics and assessment of human impacts. Research interest and experience ranges from developing passive acoustic methodology for coastal endemic dolphin species, song function in humpback whales, using spatial modelling and GIS for identification of critical habitat of marine fauna and risk assessments of ship strike and ship noise to marine fauna.

Academic qualifications

PhD (2010)                                                               The University of Queensland, Brisbane

Bachelor of Science (Honours) (2000)              James Cook University, Townsville

Bachelor of Science (1996 – 1998)                    Marine Biology, James Cook University

Membership of key national committees
