Detailed section of Freycinet CMR seabed in 9-110 m off The Nuggets. The distinct feature appears to be an relict coastline, and is potentially a calcified dune system (perhaps ‘beach rock”). This runs as a distinct linear feature throughout the CMR from south of Wineglass bay, northwards to at least Picaninny Point (north of Bicheno). It is known as a core habitat of striped trumpeter, with both recreational and commercial fishers targeting trumpeter on this habitat. This map was produced as part of the CERF Marine Biodiversity Hub. Subsequent mapping of shelf features of the Freycinet CMR has been undertaken by IMAS/GA as part of pre-NERP Hub planning studies, and occasional transit voyage tracks requested from the Marine National Facility. This exploratory mapping will assist planning for more detailed mapping and biodiversity studies in the future.
